Passion for Tango
Argentine tango, a passionate and sensual Latin social dance, is growing in popularity around the world, building converts and communities. The Queen City is no exception.
Since 2001, Passion for Tango, Charlotte’s premier School of Argentine Tango has offered weekly classes, special workshops, monthly social events and festivals for dancers of all levels and backgrounds. No partners are needed: everyone is welcome to attend and fall in love with the magic of Argentine tango!
Classes are given in different locations, but one of the longest ongoing group classes and “practicas” (supervised practices) in Charlotte is at Lynn’s Speakeasy (4819 S. Tryon St. Charlotte, NC 28217) every Monday night. Classes start with an introductory group class at 7:30–8:30 PM and practica from 8:30–11:30 PM. These classes are free of charge.
The founder and head instructor is Argentinean-born Daniel Arredondo. Besides his training from renowned Argentine tango instructors, Arredondo has a strong background in various styles of dance, including modern, Latin American folkloric, and competitive ballroom. Passion for Tango works with several organizations around the city, teaching master workshops, performing in different events, and hosting monthly “milonga” (tango social) the 3rd Saturday of every month at the Metropolitan Ballroom (2935 Providence Rd. Suite #200 Charlotte, NC 28211). Milongas start at 8:30 PM.
