The Dance Department at Central Piedmont is set up much like a conservatory, with an emphasis on technique preparation for the professional work force. Many of our students have gone on to professional companies such as New York Theatre Ballet, Tennessee Dance Theatre, Deborah Carr’s Theatre Dance Ensemble, or received scholarships to professional schools such as the Martha Graham School and The Ailey School. For students wishing to prepare for a four year university, Central Piedmont has Articulation Agreements with UNC Charlotte and UNC Greensboro. Tuition is affordable and dance courses, held at our Central and Levine campuses, are easily accessible.
Students who come to the Dance program at Central Piedmont will receive an Associate of Arts with a concentration in Dance, the A10100D. Students will concentrate formally on Humphrey – Weidman Technique for modern dance, and Cecchetti technique for ballet. A variety of other forms are also available to students, and Central Piedmont has some of the largest and most visually appealing studio spaces available in Charlotte. Dance majors (and non-majors) are given opportunities to perform with Central Piedmont Dance Theatre, Theatre (musicals) and Opera, or with the newly formed Central Piedmont Dance Club.
